Sometimes as a parent or grandparent we forget in our busy life to insure our children have an understanding of those characteristics that really provide lifelong guidance. Randy's book "Man Up", presents 10 (plus a bonus) of these factors that help remind us, and highlight why, these particular ones are especially important to all boys and men.I have a nine year old grandson who lives with us along with his mother. He is in Cub Scouts and has some wonderful male adults to look up to. That said, reading Randy's book reminded me that there are many values and characteristics that our grandson does not hear about frequently enough. I have looked at ways to increase those opportunities and try to point out instances when we are together and see an example.
I was fortunate enough to grow up during a time when I had adult males that had many experiences that they shared with me and I learned firsthand the lessons that Randy writes about. My father was a paratrooper in WWII and instilled in me a understanding for caring, responsibility and respect. While he did not teach me about the lessons that Randy identifies, he did set an example of them. I hope that every reader will be reminded of some Man in their lives who provides an example for them.
